(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — One of the City Colleges in Chicago is offering a free online course that helps people counter the COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy they may be seeing in their communities.
The Vaccine Ambassador Course from Malcolm X College teaches people about the novel coronavirus, the science and technology that was used to counter it and, yes, the reasons why some people may be reluctant to get vaccinated.
The tool is geared toward “people who have really have struggled with having conversations about why people who are really adamant about ‘I’m not going to get this vaccine,’” says Malcolm X College President David Sanders.
“How do you have that conversation without getting upset with the person?”
Natalia Mojica took the course because she regularly volunteers in the West Lawn community for Rush Medical Center. She says a lot of people she talks with express distrust and fear of the unknown.
She said a variety of factors can influence someone’s attitude about the vaccine, but the stakes are potentially high.
“What is fake news versus real news? This is your life,” she said.
