In 2022, Slayyyter is bringing a slice of Troubled Paradise to fans around the globe as she embarks on her “Club Paradise” tour, but before she sets her international tour wheels in motion, the “Clouds” artist has been keeping her fans fed.
On October 20, the Popstar dropped her first SESSIONS performance with TIDAL, giving fans an immersive, live, streaming look into what it might feel like when Slayyyter finally takes the stage on her global tour.

Speaking with the 25-year-old Pop songstress, she explained that her debut “Mini Tour” was short and sweet, but now she is “excited to do a more full, proper tour.”
Additionally, with a global tour, Slayyyter brings a new maturity and sophistication to the forefront. The days of hot pink Hello Kitty Y2K ensembles are no longer the center of her identity, but rather subtly informing the artist’s chic, clever, and eccentric presentation… both visually and sonically.
As she has grown into the identity of Slayyyter, the “Over This!” singer explains that she has become comfortable not being a “persona” all the time and instead, letting her true identity as Catherine Slater, intermingle with her stage name.
“I used to introduce myself as ‘Slayyyter’ and now I introduce myself with my real name,” notes the artist. “I started being very married to the imagery and the persona of what I do, but now just as I’ve gotten older, I’ve kind of relaxed with that a bit.”
When Catherine first began the path to her career as Slayyyter she explains, “I feel like it was more surface-level references of Y2K culture… like Murakami Louis Vuitton… things that I really wanted when I was a little kid, but couldn’t afford, and so I was kind of living out my fantasy.”
With new references and inspiration under her belt and a wider perspective on how fashion plays a role in image curation, she adds, “I feel like there is a way to go about Y2K visuals and imagery that aren’t so on the nose. You know my album cover was just like really saturated bright colors and a really fun, big, silhouette of a dress…it doesn’t have to be so Juicy Couture or McBling kind of style.”
Slayyyter coyly and in a half-kidding tone points out, “I hate to be annoying, but I feel like me and some of my internet friends were definitely a little earlier on that trend.” With the advent of Instagram and TikTok, the early-2000s aesthetic obsession has exploded.
Now, as Catherine has become grounded in who she is as a purveyor of Pop, the singer has been able to showcase a more vulnerable side to her lyrics and themes, upon the release of her debut album, Troubled Paradise.
Songs like “Throatzillaaa” are reminiscent of her “Daddy AF” roots but, are juxtaposed with tracks like “Clouds” and “Troubled Paradise,” which give listeners an exposed peek into Slayyyter’s emotional core.
When asked what it will feel like to sing heavy words, like “Life is paradise/So tell me why I feel this way inside?/I’m unhappier than I’ve ever been,” in front of audiences around the world, the St. Louis native turned Los Angelino says she’s looking forward to delivering a show that “captures the essence of me as a person.”
On her first “Mini Tour,” Slayyyter was just putting herself out there, giving fans live renditions of her fun, campy, and sultry singles. However, her Troubled Paradise tour aims to also give audiences members a fine-tuned, sharply produced, “powerful and emotional” experience.
“I’m ready to show people that I’ve grown as an artist and taking it to a stage kind of helps it live in a different atmosphere,” says Catherine.
Visually, during Slayyyter’s tour, fans can expect to see imagery and interludes that give us a glimpse into the artist’s upbringing, everyday life, and grappling with fame.
In 2019, Slayyyter’s self-titled mixtape was well-received, but in turn the singer says, “I became this niche artist, this like niche meme on Twitter, and everyone kind of pin-holed me as that. But, I’m such a fan of Pop music and pop culture, that it’s like I have my sights set a little bit higher than just being the stan Twitter meme of the week.”
In support of her debut album, and releasing deeply personal tracks, Slayyyter just dropped a live streaming show with TIDAL, that gives fans a raw look at the artist performing live. The SESSIONS show is intimate and makes use of beautifully minimal details that ultimately put Slayyyter’s vocals and lyrics on prominent display.
Performing “Over This!,” “Clouds,” and “Troubled Paradise,” Catherine tells us she chose these tracks because they all “sum up the journey, the breakup storyline, and everything emotionally that I’ve been through.”
Opting for minimal production, Slayyyter acknowledges “there is something magical when you can put on a good show and there’s not a lot going on.”
Finally, before concluding, Slayyyter touched on building a fanbase and the intricacies that surround stan culture.
In 2019, the artist Tweeted about not wanting to name her fan base, and when following up with Catherine she shares, “I changed my mind a little bit about it because I think it if you make it something that’s really funny and clever then it's not so bad.”
“I don’t like there to be a barrier between me and the people that listen to my music….they are fans, but at the end of the day I’m no better or no different,” explains the Popstar.
As for now, it’s casual for Slayyyter, playing off her legal name, “Catherine,” the singer has been referring to her audience as “Cathy Girls.”
So, whether you consider yourself a “Cathy Girl” or not...we highly recommend a delve into the world of Slayyyter’s Troubled Paradise…and please don’t start any trending “Cathy Girl” stan hashtags on Twitter.
