Hostility continues between Clay County officials and Missouri State Auditor Nicole Galloway, after a judge issued a stay of the auditor's subpoena for county records.

The auditor's subpoena, issued last week, was part of an ongoing audit requested by a group Clay County residents who say they are seeking transparency in government.

Galloway said for weeks, her office's requests for records have been met with "delays, roadblocks and evasive responses."

The county sued to block the subpoena, questioning the constitutionality of the auditor's request. A judge issued a stay of the auditor's subpoena.

A spokesperson for Clay County released a statement that included the following, "The State Auditor agreed to halt taking further action on a subpoena for records from Clay County today."

The auditor's office quickly shot back with its own statement from Steph Deidrick, the office's press secretary.

"This is a grossly inaccurate statement. The subpoena has not been withdrawn. Today's legal action took place to ensure the case could proceed efficiently."

In a previous statement, Galloway said she would use the full authority of her office to get the answers Clay County residents deserve.
