Developer offers free buildings in KCK, but there's a catch

Historic Kansas City

Prairie Fire Development Group in Kansas City is offering two vintage buildings, free of charge, but a lot will be required of the new owner.

The small, simple structures are located at 8th Street and Washington in Kansas City, Kansas. Built in the 1940s, the pop up buildings once were the site of a gas station.

The hard part is the person who accepts the buildings must pay to move them, which can be complicated.

"You've got to have a foundation put in, wherever it's going to, and the old location has got to be disconnected from all utilities," said Dwayne Mastre, Unruh House Moving. "En route, when you're moving it, power lines have to be raised, cablevision, fiber optic, telephone lines."

Unruh has charged in the range of $50,000 to move some structures. If no one wants the buildings in KCK, they will be demolished.

Anyone interested in the buildings should contact Prairie Fire.
