
A local comedian was sentenced to 23 years in prison for shooting a man to death in Overand Park.
Michael Collins Smith, 49, worked as a barber and turned to comedy as a way to reinvent himself after spending time in Kansas prisons for aggravated robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.
When times were good, Smith toured the country and opened for opened for big name comics like Dave Chappelle and Kevin Hart.
Smith heads back to prison, convicted of killing Anthony Shuster, 28, at an apartment complex in the 7500 block of W. 106th Street. The victim's family said Smith had been his barber.
Smith was convicted last February of two counts of voluntary manslaughter, one count of aggravated child endangerment and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
