Police in Kansas City, Kansas are investigating the apparent rape of a two-year-old child who was left in the care of a family friend.

Police say the family friend was watching the girl and her siblings at a home near South Coy and Lowell last Friday night.

The mother found injuries on the child Saturday morning and took her to a hospital. An examination revealed evidence of rape and a sexually-transmitted disease.

"We can't tolerate child abuse in anyform whatsoever, and so we just ask that people who need help, especially parents and other caregivers, that they call us and let us help them," said Rochelle Park, executive director, Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA).

Experts say most abuse cases involve people who know the victims.

"We cry a lot at CAPA because of the cases that we see," Park said.

Police said the other siblings were not harmed.
