Kansas City, MO - A party bus could be a fun transportation option for prom or any other event, but there's a few thing you need to know to ensure your kids are safe. The first, is to make sure your renting the bus from a reputable company that's fully licensed and insured.
Jonathan Daily is a party bus driver and says what he knows now is diffrent than before he started .
"I've had fights on the bus, I've had even a shoot-out happen while I was driving a party before. One of the people from the group had a gun in his waistband and I didn't know it," explains Daily.
Though the company Daily works for doesn't allow outside drinks on the bus, he says kids will sneak on vodka filled water bottles. Another driver he knows had to call the police on a group of teens. He says the police arrived and called the parents, but later on the parents complained to the bus company about the kids not getting the full time they paid for.
Daily says most companies clearly state in their contract that if anyone underage is caught drinking, the party is over and no refund will be given. The company he works for doesn't allow outside drinks, but that doesn't mean kids don't try to sneak it in. Daily says kids will fill a water bottle with Vodka and hide it in their clothes.
Daily tells KMBZ it's not unusual for teens to hide elicit activity while he's focused on the road.
"When they're all up dancing on the bus, they'll congregate in a big circle to where the driver can't see them, and we don't know exactly what they're doing," Daily explains.
He says for the most part, teens behave when they're on the bus, but suggests to have a parent or an older sibling go along for the ride.
Many limo rental companies will provide a document for teens to sign that says they agree not to drink or take drugs on prom night. This document is commonly called a "Prom Promise," and clearly states that if they break that "promise" they will no longer be allowed to ride.
