Kansas City, MO - Lindsey Massoth became a mother at the age of 16.
She says she worked hard, but making ends meet to provide for her and her daughter was difficult.
Her mother told her about The Grooming Project, a program founded to help single moms learn a trade that provides a living wage.
"I applied, I got accepted, and I went through the whole six months. I graduated and turns out I really liked it, and I like what I do every day so I'm just going to keep perusing it," explains Massoth.
She says becoming a dog groomer has enabled her to move out of her mom's house and become independent. She now has her own car and house.
Massoth says things are just getting better as time goes on.
"I went from making tiny checks to these big huge checks, and it was in my control. In grooming, time is everything, time is money," says Massoth. She worked on perfecting her skill so she could groom more dogs.
The most rewarding part, according to Massoth, is when her nine year old daughter says she wants to be just like her.
The grooming project didn't just teach her a new trade, they also helped her with car repairs and other needs that arose. She says if you're willing to put in the work, so will they.
