Kansas City, MO - Ahead of potential shortages of meat due to limitations during the coronavirus pandemic, Iowa-based Hy-Vee announced Tuesday it will begin to limit meat purchases by customers.

Starting Wednesday, May 6th, customers at all locations will be limited to four packages of a combination of fresh beef, ground beef, pork and chicken when they checkout.

Hy-Vee officials said the company continues to work with industry leaders to prepare for any possible fluctuations in product.

This decision was made after announcements regarding worker shortages at plants, as well as an increase in meat sales.

Store officials did not say how long this change will last.
