Some call it amateur hour.
People who do not normally spend much time outdoors end up with bad sunburns during the summer holidays, and they can expose themselves to much more than temporary pain and peeling.
Dermatologists recommend anyone spending time in the sun use a lotion that will protect them from harmful rays that can eventually cause skin cancer. Choosing a product with an SPF, or sun protection factor, is not as important as making sure the lotion contains zinc or titanium, said Dr. Dan Aires, head of the dermatology division at the University of Kansas Health System.
A relatively small number of severe sunburns can dramatically increase the chances of developing skin cancer. Something else to consider before heading out to catch some rays, wear a hat andsunglasses, with brown or green lenses.
