Kansas City, MO - The Jackson County Board of Equalization is giving property owners more time to challenge the now-controversial property reassessment.
Earlier Tuesday, the panel extended the deadline to appeal property tax appraisals to September 1st.
People gathered on the steps of the Jackson County Courthouse Monday asking for an extension until Sept. 1.
Thousands of Jackson County property owners are challenging their assessment. Many think the sharp increases, doubling or tripling their taxes, are not accurate.
Meanwhile, a member of the BOE representing the Blue Springs School District said the county should cap the property tax increases at 15%. That would mean countywide the increases would average out to be 9.5% for homeowners.
