Olathe, KS - A jury in a Johnson County courtroom delivered guilty verdicts on all counts for Justin Rey was found living in a Lenexa storage unit with his daughters, a toddler and a newborn, along with the remains of his wife.

Jurors deliberated until after midnight Thursday morning.

Justin Rey was charged with two counts of aggravated endangerment of a child, two counts of contributing to a child's misconduct and three counts of sexual exploitation of a child, for possessing images of child pornography.

Rey admitted to cutting up his wife's body and placing it in a cooler in a Kansas City, Missouri hotel room with his children present. At one time Rey said his wife died in childbirth. Another time he said his wife committed suicide.

Johnson County Assistant District Attorney Sarah Hill did not buy Rey's excuse that he wanted to protect his children from being taken away from him.

"(Rey) was willing to do whatever it took, even if it meant sacrificing the safety and well-being of those he was charged to protect," Hill told the jury.

"Mental illness is not to be treated by the criminal court," said W. Scott Toth, defense attorney, in his closing arguement. "Bad parenting is not to be treated by the criminal court."

Rey is scheduled to be sentenced March 27. He faces other criminal charges in Jackson County, Missouri.
