Kansas City, MO - This old 'cowtown' has been chosen as the first U.S. city to be spotlighted in a new effort by Google Arts and Culture.
"In Europe we just launched projects in Milan, Italy and Hamburg, Germany, and wanted to do a project here in the U.S.," said Jamie Burchfield with Google Arts and Culture.
"The more that we learned about Kansas City, the more we were excited about its unique history, it's vibrant arts scene, the incredible culture here, and it really just made sense," said Burchfield.
This city-based project is more than just a Google search list. It's a website that tells the tale of Kansas City - using online stories, virtual reality tours of museums and archives, bright photos and little vignettes about neighborhoods, barbeque, history and more.
It's all wrapped up into a slick, inviting website that would make a tourism director cry with joy.
The website features and links to more than 2,000 pieces of art, more than 40 online exhibits from 15 cultural institutions around Kansas City, says Burchfield. "And for us, we really see this as the first step celebrating this incredible city."
