A high school junior who has been offered an opportunity of a lifetime is looking for help after coming up short in raising funds.

Yale University offered Jazmin Renteria one of 90 scholarships to attend a two-week summer program in Beijing, China because of her achievements in the classroom. Thousands of students applied for the scholarships. The problem is Renteria does not have the money to get to China.

The scholarships are awarded on more than just high grade point averages.

"I take a lot of college courses, I'm a part of a lot of organizations in my school," Renteria said.

The Yale Young Global Scholars program focuses on teaching students about the fastest growing region in the world.

"The program is going to be about cultural immersion and learning about China and other countries that have great significance in the world," Renteria said.

Renteria has been working two jobs to earn the money, but she is still about $1,000 short of what she needs. She started a crowd funding effort to make up the rest.
