Kansas City, MO - A favorite spot for many to tuck into a hearty brunch or a slice of multi-colored cake is closing its doors to the public and will focus solely on making meals for medical staff at hospitals in Kansas City.
Beth Barden says her restaurant Succotash has had to scramble to stay in business amid the emergency orders around the coronavirus pandemic.
“The first four days we were open for curbside, business was down 80 percent," said Barden.
Barden has had to cut staff, even as she kept the restaurant at 26th and Holmes open for curbside and takeout orders.
Now, she's suspending even that service, closing to the public for now, and will focus on proividing "meals, coffees and juices to front line workers at our local hospitals."
“We’ve dropped off big amounts of food to Truman Medical Center, they have a behavioral health unit with a food pantry, and then juices and food to their staff," said Barden.
Barden has shifted to a pay-it-forward program with a $10 donation providing two meals for front line healthcare workers.
