KC Fire Department EMT dies from COVID-19

Kansas City, MO - Veteran first responder EMT Billy Birmingham, 69, died today from COVID-19, according to the Kansas City Fire Department."He was part of the KCFD family for the past 10 years, but part of the MAST family for many years prior," said KCFD Fire Chief Maize. "His passing represents a personal loss to all of us who knew him and cherished both his friendship and professionalism."

Birmingham’s death marks the first death of a KCMO employee from COVID-19. 

Birmingham had worked for KCFD since 2010, and before that had worked with the Metropolitan Ambulance Service since 1998.KCMO Mayor Quinton Lucas said the city will turn on the Firefighter’s Fountain and Memorial at Pennsylvania and 31st Street on Tuesday, April 13th, in honor of Birmingham's life and service.

Funeral arrangements and information are pending.
