Samuel L. Jackson was unable to mask his exhilaration Sunday night as he read the winner for the Oscar for writing, adapted screenplay.
Among the writers who shared the award with Spike Lee for "Blackkklansman" is Kevin Willmott, a professor of film and media studies at the University of Kansas. Charlie Wachtel and David Rabinowitz also received statuettes.
Wilmott, 61, grew up in Junction City, Kansas. He says he worked Lee on various drafts of the script through email.
The "Blackkklansman" script is based on the real story of Ron Stallworth, the first African American police officer and detective in Colorado Springs who planned an undercover investigation into the local KKK.
Willmott is working on another project with Spike Lee directing. The case of "Da 5 Bloods" will include Chadwick Boseman, Jean Reno and Delroy Lindo, according to the Internet Movie Database.
