Winter seems like a distant memory now, but thousands of reminders of the snow and ice remain on Kansas City streets.

Public works employees continue to fix potholes, months after the last cold snap. Snow fall totals were much higher than normal in the winter of 2018-19, and the freeze-and-thaw cycle created an unusually high number of holes in the pavement.

The abnormally wet spring did not help with efforts to address the problem, said Maggie Green, with Kansas City Missouri Public Works.

"If you add all the 311 requests, plus everything that we have filled, we're over 70,000 potholes filled since the beginning of the year," Green said.

A number of roads in Kansas City are overdue for resurfacing, which has caused more issues than expected.
