Lone Jack, MO - There's a battle raging all around you, and you're in a building on fire. Can you escape in time?
This scenario is the premise behind a Civil War-themed escape room experience put on by the Lone Jack Historical Society.
And it happens right on the historical site of the Battle of Lone Jack, a battle that took place August 15-16, 1862.
Alinda Miller, president of the historical society, came up with the idea of the escape room, using a real hotel that was burned during the battle.
"The Cave Hotel was set on fire during the battle, which was right in the corner of the battlefield, or what I call 'ground zero'," Miller said.
During the actual battle, a woman was shot at the Cave Hotel and died weeks later. Her bed and other artifacts are part of the room.
"There are just two interior rooms, upstairs and downstairs, that were left," Miller said. "We do have, in the hotel, the bed that Lucinda Cave died in. So that is part of the escape room this year."
You'll have your opportunity to try and escape the Cave Hotel in November, but you have to act fast.
Groups no larger than 7 will be allowed, and there will be only six dates throughout the month to try and make your great, history-themed escape.
Tickets are $20 per person, or $100 for a group of six.
