Kansas City, MO - The town of Levasy has been evacuated due to flooding from the breach of two levees along the Missouri River.
The small town is wholly located on the historic river floodplain, approximately 25 miles east of Kansas City, and has flooded often.
The town's 100 or so residents had to get out Saturday afternoon. The Red Cross opened a shelter at the United Methodist Church in Buckner.
About a dozen people had sought refuge at the church as of Sunday, said Carolyn Frost, a Red Cross manager.
"We brought a trailer in," Frost said. "We have cots set up, we have toileteries items, towels, we've got everything we need."
Some of the people at the shelter lost everything. Others were worried about what they would find when they return.
