The Overland Park City Council passed a preliminary plan to proceed with a planned expansion of the Overland Park Arboretum.

The plan to expand the Arboretum, located at 179th and Antioch, has prompted people who live nearby to worry about noise, lights, traffic and decreasing property values. Anthony Gosserand, who represents neighbors who have concerns about the project, told KMBC 9 News he has received assurances from City Council members.

Some people who work at the Arboretum said they were surprised at what they called a disproportionate response from some neighbors.

"Never have we had any thoughts about using that amphitheater for big events, nighttime events," said Irene Parsons, chairperson of the Arboretum's Luminary Walk.
