Overland Park, KS -  The city of Overland Park announced Tuesday it is canceling its Fourth of July Star Spangled Spectacular fireworks show because of COVID-19.

The event held at Corporate Woods Founders’ Park is annually one of the largest displays in the Kansas City Metro. The show had been scheduled for Saturday evening, July 4th.

It's cancellation joins an ever-growing list of Independence Day displays that have been canceled because of the virus outbreak.

“We’re disappointed to announce that Saturday’s Star Spangled Spectacular is canceled,” a city spokesperson said. “Given the recent increase in coronavirus cases, the show creates an additional public health risk and will not be held."
