A new poll shows Quinton Lucas has a seven point lead in the race for Kansas City mayor, which would mean bad news for the other candidate, Jolie Justus.
Lucas had 38 percent while Justus had 31 percent. Another 31 percent were undecided.
"You might say there's a lot of undecideds right now," said Titus Bond, with Remington Research, the firm that conducted the poll. "A seven point deficit is significant when you look at how the undecideds have to break in order to favor the losing candidate right now.
Numbers in favor of Justus have not grown since April, but Lucas is taking nothing for granted.
"It's always better to be ahead than behind, but I recognize we're two months off, so there's a lot of work to do," Lucas said.Justus has little time to make up for a large deficit.
"A lot of people say it's early in the race; it's not early in the race, the race is less than 60 days away," Bond said.
The poll, which was paid for by Missouri Scout, probed in the attitudes of voters, and measured responses to some issues facing the city.
"Voters want someone who can manage the airport project, but voters don't want someone that's going to expand to more projects," Bond said.
