As the temperatures rise, crime seems to do the same, but this summer seems to be better than the past few years.
Entertainment centers like Westport, the Power and Light District, and the Country Club Plaza are hot spots for complaints that involve loitering and property damage. There have been fewer complaints about crime so far this summer, said Sgt. Jacob Becchina, Kansas City Police.
"We've got officers working those entertainment district areas on extra patrol, and they just have not seen that many issues, really," Becchina said. "There's be no major problem."
The Central Patrol Division covers most of the city's entertainment districts. KCPD started a social worker program a few years ago, in an effort to stop issues before they arise.
"We're just happy people are minding the curfew and following those rules, and they're not causing any major issues down there," Becchina said.
The department has not sent a social worker to the Plaza this summer, Becchina said.
