A large number of school districts around Kansas City are closed Wednesday because of the winter weather that blew through the area late Tuesday.

Icy and snow-covered roads are a major concern for the morning commute, with windy and cold conditions for the rest of the day.
Extreme cold will remain in the area with Arctic air causing temperatures to drop to around 11 degrees by the end of Thursday. Dangerously low wind chills are expected to be a problem Friday morning.
