The National Weather Service has declared a Winter Weather Advisory for the Kansas City area to take effect at 5 p.m. Tuesday and end at 3 a.m. Wednesday.

A light glaze of ice is expected to develop after temperatures quickly plummet after 5 p.m. Rain is expected to turn to sleet, then to snow. Light accumulations are expected.

The overnight low temperature is expected to reach about 17 degrees.

Hazardous driving conditions could remain into the rush hour Wednesday morning.

The Winter Weather Advisory also affects portions of east central and northeast Kansas and north central, northwest and west central Missouri.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving, the National Weather Service said.
