All good things must come to an end. And apparently, that same rule applies to all weird things, too.
One of our favorite statistical anomalies in all of sports is just hours away from its final moments. Just like how Khris Davis batted exactly .247 in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 before ending the streak with a .220 performance in 2019. Just like how Carson Wentz threw seven interceptions in 2017, 2018 and 2019 before tossing a league-high 15 in only 12 games of 2020.
This time, it's Alvin Kamara's incredibly odd streak of 81 catches that we will have to say goodbye to. Here's what he has done as a receiver since the 2017 season:
2017: 81 receptions, 826 receiving yards, 5 receiving TDs
2018: 81 receptions, 709 receiving yards, 4 receiving TDs
2019: 81 receptions, 533 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD
2020: 80 receptions, 739 receiving yards, 5 receiving TDs
Is there a chance that Kamara has one catch in the final two games of the 2020 season, keeping the streak alive? Yea, there is, if Kamara gets hurt after recording one catch. But outside of that, I really can't see one reception over two games as a plausible outcome for one of the most dangerous dual threats the league has to offer.
But if, say, he hauls in 10 receptions against the Vikings on Christmas day, I'm fairly certain Saints won't be spending their time mourning the loss of their favorite stat oddity. Instead, Who Dat Nation will be cheering wildly en route to clinching the NFC South.
