According to Ben Roethlisberger’s agent, the Steelers want him back.

The NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala reports that she talked to Roethlisberger’s agent Ryan Tollner who told her that the Steelers "want Ben back and will contact me soon to address his cap situation.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac reported that Roethlisberger met with Steelers president Art Rooney on Tuesday and that the talks “went well.”

Roethlisberger came off elbow surgery in 2020 and helped Pittsburgh get off to an 11-0 start before collapsing toward the end of the season to end 12-4 and were kicked out of the playoffs in the first round by the Cleveland Browns.

Big Ben currently carries an over $40 million cap hit to the Steelers with a $19 million salary.

Tollner adds that “the fire burns strong and there is plenty of gas in the tank," and Ben will need that gas with an offensive line in flux after center and good friend Maurkice Pouncey recently retired.

Roethlisberger told Steelers insider Ed Bouchette recently that “I don't care about my pay at all this year.” However, with his agent chiming in on the situation, it’s hard to believe that he would let Roethlisberger sign for the veteran minimum.

The news also comes after Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert had several opportunities to name Ben as “the guy” in 2021, but would not give a definitive answer.

“Ben Roethlisberger did a lot of really, good things last year,” Colbert said. “We anticipate that he could still do some good things moving forward. Hopefully there is a way we can try to figure out and do what’s best for the organization.”

Whatever your thoughts on Roethlisberger are, if his agent is to be believed, he’ll be back in black and gold for at least one more season.
