Gonzaga’s 85-66 win over USC to advance to the Final Four was a bit of a snoozer for most fans, but not some bettors.
There was definitely at least one who had a lot riding on it up until the final buzzer.
One bettor placed a $550,000 wager through BetMGM on USC to cover +8.5 before the game started.
Obviously, that bet did not go well and it was evident early on they would probably not cover. That same person decided to double down and wager another $550,000 on USC to win the second half.
With Gonzaga leading 49-30 at halftime, this bettor would need USC to lose by 18 points or less to cash in on their second bet.
Instead, the second half ended in a 36-36 tie and USC lost by 19 points.
USC had the final possession, too, but opted for a garbage time layup with two seconds remaining instead of shooting a 3-pointer that would have helped this bettor in particular out a great deal.
The good news is this person still managed to push with the tied second half score, but he would have likely recouped his $550,000 lost had USC scored just one more point in the second half.
