Here's a sentence you didn't think you'd hear, say, eight games into the 2020 season: The Steelers trail the Bengals at halftime. Even more: The Steelers trail the Bengals 17-0 at halftime. Keep going: The Steelers trail the Bengals 17-0 at halftime, and have totaled 40 yards of total offense. Last one: The Steelers trail the Bengals 17-0 at half time, have totaled 40 yards of total offense, and Big Ben has never looked worse in his entire career.
And yet, here we are. The previously 11-0 Steelers were then 11-1, and then were 11-2, and now are getting manhandled by a 2-10-1 division opponent with Ryan Finley at the helm. And it's hard to pin the blame on anyone but Big Ben Roethlsiberger.
He's 7-of-16 with 19 yards and an interception, including a sack taken for a 12 yard loss. He nearly lost a fumble. Even the Bengals' 17 points can be attributed to the field position the team has been in because of Big Ben's complete lack of production.
Oh, and he didn't exactly set Steelers fans up for this type of performance, instead dropping a nice tidbit on Pittsburgh locals earlier in the day.
But enough of me roasting Roethlisberger — Twitter can do that for me, more viciously than I ever could.
Yikes. However, as soon as the Steelers got the ball in the second half, Roethlisberger dropped a dime over the top of the Bengals secondary and found Diontae Johnson for a deep touchdown.
"This oughta settle down Steelers nation a little bit," announcer Steve Levy said, but I'm not so sure that'll occur unless Pittsburgh takes the lead — and handily wins.
Otherwise, this team might have a long, bumpy road ahead after an immaculate start to the year.
