While it always seems like a good time when Blake Shelton is nearby these days, back when he got his start it was all business up front and party in the back for a while -- until he got rid of the mullet, of course.
Celebrating the launch of his new hard lemonade as well as the the 20th-anniversary of his number-one debut single "Austin" this month, Blake is looking back on that time of his life and the choices he's made to better himself over the years.

As you can see, Shelton's hairstyle choice when he first broke onto the scene was somewhat unfortunate, especially looking at it now with fresh eyes. Now 44-years-old, he tells PEOPLE magazine in this week's issue, "I would have told that kid, 'Hey man, the mullet's not as cool as you think it is.'"
Joking aside Blake admitted he would also advise his 24-year-old self to slow it down a little, saying he "lived life to the max back then. It's probably why I ran out of battery so soon."
"These days I'm just kind of a slow slug," he says humbly. "Luckily I got the job on 'The Voice' and I get to sit in the red chair most of the time for a living."
Shelton's got his twelfth studio album Body Language on track for release in May and will be performing a mashup of his first hit "Austin" and his latest, "Minimum Wage," at the 2021 ACM Awards on April 18. Not to mention a wedding to Gwen Stefani currently being planned for (hopefully) a summer ceremony, and he's absolutely crushing his current role as coach on NBC's The Voice. Not exactly one to take his own advice; slowing down just doesn't seem to be in the Country star's DNA. We're REALLY hoping that means a return of his sweet, sweet mullet -- even if just for one night in April!
