It was a blast to the past on the latest episode of The Voice as 21-year-old contestant Keegan Ferrell performed a cover of Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved.” Of course, the man behind the microphone on the original version of the song is none other than former coach on The Voice, Adam Levine.

"First of all, I happen to be buddies with the guy who wrote and sang that song,” Blake Shelton said after Ferrell’s performance.

“I want you to look, for just a second, at this coaching panel," Blake added while making his case to recruit Ferrell to his team. "Take note at who's missing, and who's in that chair. Now I'm not saying that Kelly Clarkson got Adam [Levine] fired, but ... he's gone, and she's sitting there, OK?”

While Kelly went on to refute Blake’s claim, John Legend joined in adding that Clarkson “has a talk show on the network.”

"That's right,” Blake replied. “This network stands for Nothing But Clarkson, OK? NBC."

“If Maroon 5 inspires you,” he continued, “I don't know that I would choose a coach that is their arch nemesis."

Blake was ultimately successful in his recruitment efforts as he was able to land Ferrell as part of his team.
