It was a gentle dig, but a dig nonetheless.
Kelly Clarkson has built an entertainment empire off of her 2002 win on the inaugural American Idol, and from time to time she likes to remind folks. Although it seems speaking the name of the show that helped to make her famous has been forbidden during her seven-season tenure on The Voice.

Throughout Kelly's time as an advisor in past seasons of The Voice and now in her reprising role as coach, she has mentioned her singing competition experience and how her advice could be of exceptional help while navigating the show.
During this week’s blind auditions on Tuesday, March 9, Kelly discussed strategy with 17-year-old contestant Gihanna Zoe saying her advice should be heeded because she has "obviously navigated a singing competition myself before," while attempting to sway singer Deion Warren to join Team Kelly and "pick, I don't know, someone that won a vocal competition." After some grumbles from the other coaches, host Carson Daly came to Kelly's defense contending, "she’s won a show just like this! Arguably she knows more about this than any of you!"
Coach, The Voice O.G., and Kelly's sworn nemesis Blake Shelton had enough. "That show was cancelled," he fired back playfully, adding that Kelly "can't complete her team" and is a "terrible coach."
Although technically, FOX dropped Idol in 2016 the highly popular show was revived on ABC in 2018. You know what wasn't ever revived? 2003-2007's Nashville Star on CMT which Blake was a part of in the final season. But we digress.
There have been other Idol alum crossovers on The Voice throughout the years, including singer Jennifer Hudson, all of whom had alluded to past experiences but made no mention of their appearances on the competition's competition by name. Guess the producers just want to keep the two similar but quite different shows as separate as possible, so as not to confuse the viewers.
