During his final days with the Houston Texans, Bill O'Brien apparently had poor interactions with a variety of people in the organization, which very likely contributed to his firing.
Among the people that O'Brien had verbal altercations with during his final week as the Texans' head coach/general manager: three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt:
O'Brien was dismissed Monday, in a rather shocking move. Though it did appear that things could be trending towards the Texans making a change this offseason, O'Brien being let go this early in the season caught many off guard. The Texans are 0-4, but their first three games were against the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers.
That said, getting on the bad side of Watt, the greatest player in the history of the franchise, isn't good. Wilson's tweet suggests his disagreement with Watt was just the tip of the iceberg. And frankly, it's fair to assume that there was a fair bit of second-guessing in the Texans' locker room after O'Brien traded All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins this past offseason.
While the Texans signed Deshaun Watson to a long-term deal prior to the 2020 season, there's not a lot else to be excited about with the Texans in the short or long-term. Because of the August of 2019 trade that allowed them to acquire Laremy Tunsil and the aforementioned Hopkins deal with the Arizona Cardinals, the Texans aren't slated to have picks in the first, second and fourth rounds in 2021. Additionally, Over The Cap says the organization is slated to have just over $6 million in available cap space this upcoming offseason.
