BTS share 'grief and anger' in emotional plea to stop Asian hate

Their heartfelt message stemmed from personal experience

In light of the rising and tragic attacks on the Asian community, BTS has a message for fans and the world.

After careful contemplation, the famed K-pop group took to Twitter with their open letter. “We send our deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. We feel grief and anger,” they began. They reflected on moments when they faced their own discrimination. “We have endured expletives without reason and were mocked for the way we look. We were even asked why Asians spoke in English,” they expressed.

They did feel their personal experiences are “inconsequential,” in comparison to the recent events, but “these experiences were enough to make us feel powerless and chip away our self-esteem.” Ultimately, BTS is against discrimination and violence.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, anti-Asian attacks have drastically increased nationwide. Just yesterday, in New York City, a 65-year-old Asian woman was attacked as onlookers witnessed and eight lives were lost in the mass shooting in Georgia earlier this month.
