Old takes never die on the internet, and sometimes that can work out favorably.
Such is the case for Bucs running back Leonard Fournette and Chiefs stud defensive lineman Chris Jones, who are on the verge of realizing audacious predictions issued long ago that have resurfaced during the course of the Super Bowl bye week.
Fournette paused to reflect on his football journey on social media this week, resurfacing a seven-year-old tweet dating back to his senior year of high school in which he boldly said he looked forward to one day playing in the Super Bowl.
The tweet, dated Feb. 2, 2014, came on the night of Super Bowl XLVIII, won handily by the Seattle Seahawks in a laugher over the Denver Broncos.
Fournette reflected on the old tweet on Friday, and hilariously closed by calling himself "Playoff Lenny."
Jones, meanwhile, will be tasked with stopping Fournette and the rest of the Tampa offense in the big game. The hulking interior lineman famously called his shot when he predicted his team would win the following year's Super Bowl after losing to the New England Patriots in the 2018 AFC title game.
Jones made good on his promise when the Chiefs defeated the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV -- and followed it up during the headiness of the celebration by predicting Kansas City would repeat as the sport's top team in 2020.
Fournette will realize his prediction when the big game kicks off on Feb. 7, while Jones will have to deliver a win to improve to 2-for-2 on his Super Bowl prophecies.
