Only the Jets could pull off a surprising win as double-digit underdogs and generate a consensus feeling of anger from their fan base.
And so, with the Jets' victory against the likely playoff-bound Rams, the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes now as a new frontrunner at the helm: the Jacksonville Jaguars. Gang Green may have lost their chance to draft one of the most highly-touted draft prospects in years, and Lawrence himself may have lost his chance to make a home in New York, a place he's never even been to before.
Wait... really? Never?
"I haven't been. I really haven't been that many places, honestly," Lawrence told ESPN's Adam Schefter on his podcast, much to the NFL insider's surprise. "I've heard a lot of good things. It's definitely different from what I'm used to, being here in Clemson."
"... Wouldn't that be kind of cool — if that was my first time going, to show up with bags."
To Jets fans, that would indeed be "pretty cool." It would also be potentially franchise-altering, but it would also unfortunately be a little surprising considering how the rest of the season might unfold for these two teams. Jacksonville wasn't actively trying to lose after their Week 1 upset over the Colts, but they have still lost 13 in a row. And seeing as there are two games left and they've rotated through Gardner Minshew, Jake Luton and Mike Glennon at the quarterback position, they *probably* shouldn't be trying too hard to win their last two contests.
Whether it's with the Jags, the Jets or some other mystery team, Lawrence's mentality will be the same.
"I was just telling someone who was asking, it sounds like a cliché answer but I'm just gonna be happy to have the opportunity wherever that is, and obviously there's some teams that it's gonna be more of a process to get to the point where they want to be," Lawrence said. "But I'm ready to take on any challenge, really, and whatever team wants me, I'm gonna be happy about that and I'm gonna give my all, obviously.
"... I haven't thought about it too much. I'm gonna have more time after the season to kind of get in that gear but really I just wanna go somewhere and have a chance to win and help a team do that, because I still feel like out of everything, that's what I do best is win."
With a career 38-1 record at the helm, his game does more than enough to back up his words. And for two one-win teams, someone whose best ability is to win sounds like a welcome commodity, don't you think?
