He hasn't quite averaged 41.5 points per game in a Warriors uniform like Wilt Chamberlain did, but Stephen Curry has done pretty much everything else that the franchise could ask for.
That includes, as of Monday night, scoring more than Chamberlain and anybody else in a Warriors uniform. Here's the play where he made it happen.
Did I mention that he scored all 19 that were required of him... in the first quarter alone? Entering Golden State's contest against the Denver Nuggets, Curry had 17,765 career points — all of which, obviously, came with the Warriors — as compared to Chamberlain's 17,783 points that has long sat atop the franchise leaderboard. Here was the top 10 before Curry made history to kick off the week (via Stathead):
It's not too surprising to see my Kappa Sigma brother Rick Barry at No. 3, nor is it a shock that fellow Splash Bro Klay Thompson cracks the top ten. What's probably craziest out of anything on this list, but that shouldn't be too unexpected, is how few games Chamberlain needed to reach that massive amount of points. 17,783 points in 429 games? Are you kidding me? Maybe this chart, showing all-time Warriors ranked by the number of 50-point games they recorded, clears up any doubt about how that's possible.
But enough about Wilt. Let's talk about the accomplishments of the new Warriors points leader. We could go on forever, so I'll just show you one list for now. Here's every NBA player in history with a 20-PPG career average as well as a 40 percent three-point percentage and a .90 percent clip from the charity stripe:
Yep. That's it. That's the list.
We're excited to see just how much higher Curry can go throughout the remainder of his legendary NBA career — and, for what it's worth, how much higher he can go in this Monday night game alone.
