As one of the most recognizable figures in rock with deep roots in punk, it’d be easy to assume Dave Grohl was influenced by groups like the Misfits. Apparently, that's far from the truth.

In a new interview with Tiny TV, the Foo Fighters frontman admits that despite loving rock, he was never really a fan of the Misfits. “When I was young, I never really liked the Misfits. I liked all these other hard rock, punk rock bands, but I never really liked the Misfits. And I don't know why,” he said.

It took convincing from his 14-year-old daughter, Violet Grohl, to give the band a chance. "So, my daughter, she started listening to Misfits, and she's turning me onto the Misfits. She's 14 years old, she's saying like, 'No, no, dad, you have to listen to this.' Now I love the Misfits, my daughter made me love the Misfits,” Grohl said.

Elsewhere in the interview, Dave also shared an incredible story about the first time he met AC/DC. Even better, Paul McCartney was also in attendance during this legendary encounter.

The encounter occurred after the GRAMMY Awards one year as they all went out to dinner together. “I wasn’t performing at the GRAMMYs, I was presenting an award or something,” Grohl recalled. “I’m lucky to say that Paul McCartney is a friend, and I love him very much. As much as he’s a hero of mine, he’s also a very sweet man and a friend.”

Grohl said that McCartney asked him what he was doing after the GRAMMYs, to which Dave replied that he and his Foo Fighters bandmates were going to go grab dinner together. McCartney asked if he and his wife Nancy Shevell could join and Grohl enthusiastically agreed.

Grohl continued: “So then he bumps into AC/DC in a hotel or something. And then they say, ‘What are you doing after the show?’ And he says, ‘I’m gonna go have dinner with the Foo Fighters.’ And Paul said, ‘Do you wanna come?’ So Paul’s wife calls my wife, and then my wife says, ‘Hey, do you mind if AC/DC comes to dinner?’ And I had never met AC/DC.”

“So then we had this beautiful night,” Grohl concluded. “And there was this jazz band. And it was one of the greatest nights of my entire life.”

Yeah, that is definitely one of those “fly on the wall” moments.
