Houston Texans head coach David Culley had his first NFL coaching job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1994, so he's been around the league for quite some time. At a certain point, the 65-year-old had to concede that he may never get a shot to lead an NFL franchise.

But he will, and even if the Texans are perhaps the most dysfunctional organization in sports currently, there's only 32 head coaching jobs and Culley now has one.

Culley - who has previously been an assistant under Bill Cowher, Andy Reid, Sean McDermott and John Harbaugh - was not only fortunate enough to land a head coaching job, but in a position to do so while his 94-year-old father is still alive:

If Culley's father is 94, that would mean he was either born in 1926 or 1927. At that point, decades before the Civil rights movement, it would have been unfathomable for him to believe that the next generation of his family would reach such tremendous heights. For him to still be alive and seemingly in good health for this moment, it's the type of story that brings a tear to your eye.

Make no mistake, Culley will have his work cut out for him in Houston. The franchise has already released organizational icon J.J. Watt this offseason, and quarterback Deshaun Watson has requested to be traded. Culley and the Texans continue to say they don't intend to trade their franchise quarterback, though there's some evidence that Watson would rather sit out the 2021 season than return to Houston. If the Texans were 4-12 with Watson in 2020, it's hard to think about what they'd look like without him in 2021.
