During an interview with RADIO.COM’s Morgan Freed on Emo Nite, DE’WAYNE and Awsten discussed their new single “Perfume” and the process behind collaborating on the track.
DE’WAYNE tells that everything we hear on the new song was done in the first take because he and Awsten were just “vibing out” together. Awsten also shares that when DE’WAYNE first sent him the song he kept waking up with it in his head.

Before Awsten was even offered a feature on the track he was encouraging DE’WAYNE to put the song on his upcoming album. “This has to make the album,” exclaims Awsten as he re-tells the story. He adds, “It’s so f*****g good.”
This collaboration between the two artists might be their first project together, but it certainly won’t be their last. “We have so many things in the vault… I’m sure something will see the light of day at some point,” says Awsten. He adds, “DE’WAYNE is just one of those people that’s so f*****g good, as a person and as a musician, it’d be so stupid to be friends and not ever do anything.”
Out of necessity, throughout the pandemic, the two artists feel that they have become stronger producers and songwriters because of the difficulty to access studios frequently. DE’WAYNE explains, “Throughout the pandemic, I’ve wanted to come out of the pandemic and say ‘once this is over I want to be the new artist the people have to go see.’ You know without producers I’ve got to just bang on my guitar and bang on my diary and really express myself.”
DE’WAYNE also tells us that he has a new song coming every month, which he’s never been able to do until now. Also, the artist excitedly announces that his debut record is arriving very soon.
