ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Missouri Charter Public School Commission has ruled St. Louis Voices Academy of Media Arts in the Park Pacific building in Downtown St. Louis cannot reopen after the Thanksgiving holiday.
SLVA had to submit a safety plan and be ready to implement it by Monday. The Charter Public School Commission, along with former St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson, who conducted an audit of the school determined several things.
Deficiencies span emergency preparedness, physical security, supervision protocols, incident response, staff training and institutional accountability.
Because of that conclusion, the school is closed to in person classroom attendance until further notice. While the school cannot reopen.....it can temporarily hold virtual classes.
Dotson was retained by the Commission after a child walked away from the school last month, unbeknownst to school staff.
The letter to the school goes on to say "if the security deficiencies are not corrected and the corrective actions are not met, the Commission will initiate closure procedures which allows the permanent closure prior to the end of the school year, if continued operation of the school presents a clear and immediate threat to the health and safety of children."
The following is the letter from the Commission and Sam Dotson's security review of the school.
