Who’s cutting onions in here?
We’ve seen both sides of the fantasy coin this year. Fantasy can sometimes bring out the worst in us (as Josh Jacobs would attest), but that’s not always the case. The Scott Fish Bowl, an annual expert league that raises thousands for charities like Toys for Tots, is an example of all the good fantasy can bring to the community. But aside from philanthropic pursuits, fantasy football is also a great way to stay in touch with friends and family (especially in the midst of a year-long quarantine), coming together to enjoy a shared interest every September through December.
Which brings us to the inspiring story shared by Twitter user @TillThiccle. Somehow Tilla’s uncle, who passed away in October, advanced to his league’s fantasy championship this past weekend. Chuck, who had been commissioner for over a decade, was crowned champion after his opponent graciously took a knee, submitting a blank lineup in Week 16.
The kind gesture quickly went viral, earning praise from many of the industry’s biggest names including longtime ESPN personality Matthew Berry.
The screenshot shared by Tilla only showed a snippet of his uncle’s lineup, though Chuck’s team certainly boasted its share of heavy hitters with Chiefs star Travis Kelce leading the way alongside breakout wide receiver Calvin Ridley. While a handful of trolls took to Twitter to voice their skepticism, wondering how Chuck qualified for the championship with two of his starters (DeVante Parker and James Robinson) injured, Tilla took the high road, laughing off the doubters.
Way to go out, Chuck. Rest in peace.
