Fox Sports NFL announcer Kenny Albert was set to hone his craft on the amateur circuit this week.
The veteran broadcaster, son of the legendary Knicks announcer Marv Albert, will be calling a northern New Jersey high school's game against a rival on Thursday night.
Albert has two children enrolled at the high school in Bergen County, the New York Post reported, and has struck up a friendship with the school's athletic director.
With limited fans allowed to attend games due to the coronavirus pandemic, the school has been streaming its games for family and fans to watch at home -- often without audio.
The suboptimal viewing experience prompted Albert to kiddingly offer his services in the event a game were to be held without coming into conflict with his NFL duties -- and sure enough this week's game fell on Thursday.
Albert has been studying the teams' rosters, rehearsing players' names, and even stopped by practices to talk with coaches, the report said.
The 52-year-old Albert is also the play-by-play announcer for the New York Rangers, and calls boxing and MLB games for Fox. He's among the leading candidates to replace the recently retired Doc Emrick on NBC's NHL coverage, the Post report said.
