The 49ers lost two of their most important offensive players to injuries for the second time this season in Sunday's defeat at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks.
Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo left after re-aggravating an ankle injury and star tight end George Kittle departed with a foot injury, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the game.
Kittle was due for an MRI on Monday after X-rays revealed no breaks in his foot on Sunday, Shanahan said.
Both Garoppolo and Kittle missed time earlier in the season with leg injuries.
Both players departed early in the fourth quarter on Sunday, with the 49ers facing a sizable deficit, and were listed as questionable to return. Neither played re-entered the game, however.
Kittle's exit came shortly after making a nifty juggling catch while being sandwiched in between two defenders. He exited with two catches for 39 yards.
Garoppolo missed Weeks 3 and 4 and was pulled early in a blowout loss in Week 5 after suffering an ankle injury in Week 2 at MetLife Stadium against the Jets. He appeared to get back on track against the Rams and to a lesser extent the Patriots, guiding the team to wins in both games.
Kittle missed Weeks 2 and 3, exploding for 15 catches, 183 yards and a score against the Eagles in his return in Week 4.
Niners backup QB Nick Mullen threw for over 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns in relief of Garoppolo on Sunday, most of it coming with the game out of reach.
