Nothing George Kittle does anymore surprises me too much. I have come to accept that he's a man among boys — the boys being other 200-plus pound behemoths in the NFL — with a personality to match his unbelievable skill set.

He's taken a beating in the NFL, in part due to his physical play style and his endless determination to catch, hurdle, block and bully everything in sight, but had only missed a handful of games in his career to show for the wear and tear his body has taken. Unfortunately, a change in that pattern is coming after Kittle suffered a broken foot.

If it were up to Kittle, however, everything would change. A broken foot keeping a player of Kittle's caliber and fortitude for eight weeks? Psh. Let's not cry about a broken foot now.

Two weeks... that's it? I guess I can still be surprised by Kittle. I broke my fifth metatarsal in a game of backyard football back in sixth grade and I milked that thing for all it was worth, wearing that boot like a celebrity around school for months. But not Kittle.

Unfortunately for Kittle and Kittle fans alike, Shanahan says he'll go on IR, which will force him to miss three weeks at a minimum. That loss isn't one that will be easy for them to take, either, which goes to show just how careful they want to be with their star offensive player. Even in the midst of the playoff hunt — and with the potential for an even better opportunity to make the postseason — the Niners will err on the side of caution and let Kittle rehab fully.
