Jalen Hurts will enter 2021 as QB 1 for the Philadelphia Eagles and he has a new number to reflect as such.
The team announced Friday that Hurts will wear No. 1 in 2021, after wearing No. 2 in his rookie season. Hurts did wear No. 2 collegiately at Alabama, though he turned himself into a legitimate NFL prospect in his senior season at Oklahoma, when he wore No. 1. That number wasn't available last year because punter Cameron Johnston had it, but he left to sign with the Houston Texans last month.
Notably, LeSean McCoy changed his number from 29 to 25 after his rookie season, and ultimately went on to become the franchise's all-time leading rusher. Though obviously at different positions, Hurts would love to have a similar come-up in Philadelphia.
Elsewhere, former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco, who will back Hurts up, will wear No. 7. Other quarterbacks to wear that number in franchise history include Ron Jaworski, Jeff Garcia, Michael Vick and Sam Bradford.
Safety Anthony Harris, a free-agent signing last month, will don No. 28 with the team.
