CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Browns receiver Jarvis Landry expressed his disappointment in Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters, who was caught on camera spitting towards him, at the end of the first quarter Monday night.
Landry learned of the incident following the Ravens 47-42 victory and responded Thursday when asked about it.
“He’s a coward,” Landry said Thursday. “He knew that maybe behind my back he could do things like that, but to my face he wouldn’t. Take it for what it’s worth and now I know. Everybody knows what type of player he is and the type of person he is and just move on from there.”
Video of the incident taken from ESPN’s broadcast made its way around social media and caught Landry’s attention.
Spitting at another player is disrespectful, but even more troubling is the care the league and players association have taken to put protocols in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, which Peters clearly violated.
“Be a man about if you’re going to do something like that,” Landry said. “I don’t know about protocols, but if there is a protocol about being a man, that sure ain’t it right there.”
Landry said that he and Peters didn’t have any bad blood between them prior to Monday night but that has changed.
“Whatever his beef is, I don’t know, but if that’s what he want, he definitely got it,” Landry said.
The incident cast a shadow over arguably the best game played of the 2020 season in the league.
On Tuesday, Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins took to Twitter and boasted about news that Browns safety Andrew Sendejo suffered a concussion while unsuccessfully trying to stop the former Ohio State star from scoring in the fourth quarter, saying Sendejo “better bring his big boy britches next time.” Dobbins quickly deleted the tweet and offered well wishes to Sendejo in another post.
Last year Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey was accused of choking Odell Beckham Jr. when he had him pinned on the ground after a play.
Peters also called Landry and Beckham “homegirls” during an Instagram Live broadcast from the team’s flight home from Cleveland Monday night.
The Ravens swept the season series and depending how the playoffs unfold, the two division rivals could see each other for a third time come January.
“I won’t lose sleep, but definitely going to make it another game to remember,” Landry said.
