Jon Kitna has quite some stories from his 14-year NFL career, particularly with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The former quarterback, appearing on “The Ryen Russillo Podcast,” revealed that he once had a wide receiver who was drunk in the huddle during the middle of a game during his five-year tenure in Cincinnati.
“There were some things that were hard to believe [with the Bengals],” he said. “There was a time that I played a game with a guy that was drunk in the huddle. There was a time that a guy showed up late to a game. In the NFL, you need to be there two hours, two hours and 15 minutes ahead of time. And he showed up under an hour before the game’s start.
“Those are weird things, now. That’s tough. I’m not sure if the staff knew. But I think the guy was like — that was kind of his normal. I mean he was drunk and had close to 200 yards receiving now. So, it was crazy.”
Kitna, who played for the Bengals from 2001-05, would not say who the player in question was, though.
The Bengals had a couple of star receivers in the league during Kitna’s time in Cincinnati — some of which had multiple games of 130 or more receiving yards, but none seem to have had 200.
One of those receivers, who we’ll keep nameless since Kitna did as well, posted 175 yards in a game in 2004, but Carson Palmer was the quarterback of that game.
Former Bengals right tackle, Willie Anderson, responded to a tweet of Kitna’s audio with a laughing emoji, so whoever was on those Kitna Bengals teams may know exactly who he is talking about.
The rest of us can keep guessing, but if you connect the dots, it’s not all that hard to narrow down the choices.
