Country singers Lauren Alaina and Jon Pardi have been friends for quite some time, but fans have only been given a small taste of what a collaboration between the pair could sound like... until of course Lauren's latest single "Getting Over Him."

"We met when I had long hair," Pardi tells Audacy's Rockin' Country Saturday Nights host Coop during their chat this weekend. "I think we've become drastically closer over the years," Lauren acknowledged with a smile.

Many fans likely wonder how a song like this comes together; whether a label rep or team member offers the idea or if it comes naturally between the songwriters. While each session is different for her in their own ways, in this case, Lauren admits after writing the track with two of her friends that she texted it over to Jon right away with him at the front of her mind.

"It was so funny, when I was listening back to the song I was like, 'it sounds like we just described Jon Pardi... accidentally,'" Lauren laughs. So, I sent it to him. I think I really hooked him with the 'denim on denim' line!" Pardi agrees: "That's it... denim on denim, go get 'em!"

Lauren remembers back to the early stages of the recording process, when she was at home with her family while on the phone with Jon giving him details. After her mom got in all of her "tell Jon I said hello's," Lauren was able to video chat with him and get some actual work done.

"I love the attitude of it," Jon says of the track. "I love the rowdiness of it. I think it's great for Lauren to have a song like this, and to be a part of it and be the outlaw guy in the story... I'm all about that. It's fun and I think we can all relate to it. One rowdy night."

Pardi and Alaina have worked together before, on Jon's 2019 single "Don't Blame It On Whiskey." Describing Jon in the past as the "perfect Friday night guy," which honestly sounds completely valid, Lauren also remembered one of her favorite stories involving her and Jon... and a guy she was seeing if only briefly. After introducing Jon to her significant-at-the-time-other after a show in Nashville, Jon made it perfectly clear what he thought by saying, in front of him, "I don't like that guy, he's not good enough for you."

Rewinding to when he was filming his video for "Night Shift" downtown when some guy on a scooter was just "shooting middle fingers" to the cameras and crew as he ruined their shots in the background, Jon recognized him. "This guy lied and said he didn't do it," Lauren says. "Looking back, I think he may have done it! Turns out I didn't end up with that guy, and Jon Pardi now gets to vet all the boyfriends." Jon says there were no real hard feelings towards the guy, "it was just that he was with Lauren," he says. "I was like, 'how does this happen?'" Laughing, Lauren adds, Jon said to her, "of all the people in Nashville, you got the scooter guy?!"
